"As an intern at Hobblebush Books, I was much more than just an extra pair of eyes. The Hobblebush team taught me the ins and outs of independent publishing, familiarizing me not only with textual editing, but also with book aquisition, marketing, and design. Flexibility was a key component of the internship, allowing me to pursue my particular interests and hone specific skills (a rare priviledge for a first-time intern!). My responsibilities included proofreading copy, inputting editorial changes, designing inserts and advertisements, and meeting authors. The rich and varied projects Hobblebush takes on allowed me to gain experience with many genres, among them poetry, fiction, biography, and memoir. Two summers with Hobblebush Books taught me the value of patience, diligence, and thoroughness, and I'm grateful to them for introducing me to the world of publishing."

"As a Hobblebush intern, I had the opportunity to turn my interest in publishing into genuine experience. I copyedited and proofread manuscripts, learned to use standard proofreading marks, and became familiar with The Chicago Manual of Style. Observing and participating in basic typesetting and layout formatting introduced me to important publishing software, including Adobe InDesign. I had the chance to help input manuscript changes and book elements, such as illustrations and tables of contents, as well as improve my editing skills. Occasionally, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Amy, the marketing director, on potential markets for titles and researching grants for authors. Sid is a gifted teacher, drawing on years of publishing experience. He and Amy were always available to answer questions and to acquaint me with the various projects and responsibilities of publishing. Overall, an internship with Hobblebush Books is a valuable introduction into all aspects of the publishing process.

"Sid, thank you again for your patience, guidance, and friendship. I wish all the best for Hobblebush's future, and that the interns who pass through will appreciate your business for what it is—providing high-quality books and fulfilling the dreams of so many authors. Not to mention, it's a fun place to be."
