Sailing to Dalmatia

Poems by Don Gralen

Sailing to Dalmatia is a welcome collection, mature and unflinching. Gralen’s perception of the world is at times full of outrage, at times tender, but always delivered straight to our collective consciousness. Here is a speaker who recalls William Stafford’s in "Traveling Through the Dark," who thought hard for us all, before he pushed the pregnant doe over the edge, because to swerve might make more dead. These poems are wise and experiential, moving between future and past with grace. Artful yet deeply interrogative, these poems teach and delight. I have learned much from these pages, from this poet.”
— Pam Bernard, Author of Across the Dark, Adjunct Professor, Emerson College, Boston
